Forever Free

This is the follow up to The Forever War.

It’s a bizarre story, set a few decades after the first book.

I don’t know what this book is trying to do. I’m probably too dumb to get it.

Basically, the main character (William Mandella) hates being under the boot of anyone and he convinces a bunch of other people to escape their lives by traveling away from their planet at near light speed. When they return 10 years later it will be 40,000 years in the future (because of relativity) and things will be different … probably.

That’s interesting.

But that doesn’t happen because something goes wrong on the trip and they return early to discover that everyone has disappeared Rapture-style. What happened to them?

It turns out some super alien has been using the universe to run an experiment. But … that’s it.

The whole thing is silly. And the protagonist is a dick.
