Benioff and Weiss are bringing The Three-Body Problem to Netflix

Hmm.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are adapting the “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” trilogy for Netflix, reports TV Line.
I have comments and questions:
-
I’ve read the first two books in the series (The Three-Body Problem and The Dark Forest). These are fascinating stories. They’re also thick. That’s why I haven’t gotten around to the third book–I’ve been too tired to take it on. I have no idea how these books will translate to the screen.

According to TV Line, author Liu Cixin and translator Ken Liu are consultants on the Netflix project. That’s good, but shouldn’t this adaptation be overseen by people with a cultural background that’s not middle-aged-white-guy? The Chinese perspectives in the book series are essential. I hope they’re not jettisoned to make the Netflix series more “accessible” for non-Chinese audiences.

Will this series ever see the light of day? Two previous Benioff and Weiss projects ("Confederate” and a new “Star Wars” trilogy) died in development.

This is a trilogy. Will Benioff and Weiss adapt the first two novels over six well-paced seasons and then rush the last novel in abbreviated seventh and eight seasons? (They do have a track record.)
