American Gangster

I like Ridley Scott. I like Denzel Washington. I like Russell Crowe. But I didn’t like this movie.
It’s well made (as most Ridley Scott movies are), but it felt like a Wikiepedia entry rather than a film.
Frank Lucas was a real guy, yet his motivations for becoming a top heroin dealer in ’70s-era New York were never all that clear.
I also missed the part of the movie where Crowe’s character switched from a narcotics detective to a prosecutor. He went to law school via night classes, I caught that part, but then at the end he’s the lead prosecutor? How’d that happen?
